User Reviews about ArtRage Deluxe 2.5
I bought the ArtRage Deluxe after reading a review of it in an art magazine and decided to try this product again. I had bought an earlier edition of ArtRage a few years ago and wasn't impressed but the ArtRage Deluxe has vastly improved from the earlier versions! ArtRage supplies a number of tutorial videos and help features which will help those of us new to digital art and the tutuorials are provided in a user friendly format. While the toolbars are a little touchy to use (and this may be more of an individual computer issue) they're easier to use than previous versions and there's more 'materials' to choose from. ArtRage offers a number of art tools such as paints, pencils, pastels and so forth and working with layers and different sized 'canvases' is easier to do than with some other art programs. I'd strongly recommend those looking to venture into digital art buy a copy of the ArtRage Deluxe. -- ArtRage Works Well
Great alternative to a much more expensive Corel Painter. Deluxe is great it feel like you really painting and drawing. I might upgrade for more features in the future. But for $20 you can't go wrong. I you get good enough with it you can create anything that can be done in painter. -- Great for the price
The program is excellent for art simulation.
Pros:
The program works and it works easily with my pen Hanvon Tablet. After watching the video demo, I am not kidding you can do exactly what they can do in that video in less than 10 minutes. Unlike other products you can't figure out the controls and have to read books for simple things like drawing on a screen. I was like wow this acts like real paint and pencil too? I have all my best It was even annoyingly realistic to put it blunt. Yes, it even could tell how much pressure my pen Tablet was applying and made gaps in my pencil like a real pen would do. It was relatively inexpensive and was simulating real artist materials.
CONS: (DISLIKES)
They need a smugger or graphite smudge tool, they have a PAINTERS knife for smudging unfortunately it cuts doesn't blend well.
The only export types. (JPEG)
Save for editing only in it's format.
There is something I really would like is an easier way to keep a certain set of colors from the wheel on the right. I tend to start painting then switch a color then can't get one of my old colors back. Why cause it's mixed or not exactly the same. You can use their tool the color sampler? Which doesn't look like a tool and that took me the longest to find.
Other programs to compare against: I might save you some money.
I tried Anime Studio 6 which they also make, What a waste of money. You can't draw in it well enough to make a figure to use. Which would be such a big deal if it wasn't a special picture format that no one uses far as I can tell accept them.
You have companies like Adobe taking away simple drawing abilities with their cheaper software like Adobe Elements. Don't buy the only good thing about it is the auto clipping. This is not a joke. You can't even do some basic drawing inside it anymore. Also it takes a step back making it like picture it from Microsoft where you go through wizards but worse in their design.

I haven't used this program that much. It's probably me... it's hard to comprehend. -- A bit hard to understand
I really like this software both for its excellent feature set, and the intuitive UI. I also tried Photoshop Elements which came with my tablet. But I'm really glad I bought this software. It allowed me to immediately start painting. Photoshop elements has many more features, but it's also designed to be a "work" application. ArtRage Deluxe feels like a "play" program, that is very easy to experiment and prototype with. And, the fact that it has fewer tools is actually an advantage for beginners in my opinion. Instead of reading help documents, you can start playing right away! I will most certainly try their pro versions once I have gotten mileage out of this one :) -- Excellent product for a very reasonable price
